Scholars Taking Photography Lessons
In February we started Saturday classes in photography with our scholars. They have learned about the history of photography, basic composition rules, and various factors that affect a photograph. Never before have they had their own camera. Never before have they been given the task to go on a photo mission in their neighborhoods.
The theme for their photo assignment was the small details in their daily lives that have importance to them. At the end of this article you can find a link to some of the photos they took with disposable cameras.
March 2nd
Today our scholars had their 1st out of 4 sessions on “Basic Photography”. This March they will not only learn about photo composition and golden rules, but will also get the chance to snap their own shots in which they later will work critically with. In the end, they will all have created their own photo stories and captured their daily lives on film. And, perhaps some may even discover an unknown passion!
March 9
The 2nd lesson in photography was held today, and it was the most energetic class we have ever had. The scholars were all hands-on, and during the lesson they learned more about composition as well as creating their own pin-hole cameras. The most anticipated, however, was when they were handed their own disposable cameras.
They left class today with a mission – to capture on film what matters to them in their daily lives. When the 3rd lesson is upon us their photos will already have been developed, and it will be time to work in depth with them.

The 3rd photography lesson was held yesterday, and it was greatly anticipated by the scholars. Finally they could review their photos! The class was spent creating photo collages in order to easier analyse and review the photos of each aspiring photographer. The students also chose their top 2 photos for editing during the 4th lesson – and finally their photos will be presented to their parents during the final scholarship meeting end of March.
March 23
The last session of the Photography classes was held today – and the scholars got to edit some of their photos. In addition, they also chose their most meaningful shot for their presentations on Tuesday. On Tuesday they are also going on an outing – to a photo studio!
In recognition of their hard work, as well as celebrating the graduates, the scholars were treated for a special meal and – cake – after class!
