A Million Voices (AMV) is a Norwegian non-governmental, non-religious and non-political organization. Donations derive from private individuals, scholarship sponsors, fundraising, and corporate partners.
Projects: Our office is located in Arendal, Norway, which is run by volunteers. Until 2020, the projects were implemented by our branch office, A Million Voices Philippines. However, since 2020 the projects have been operated by our Philippine based local partner in Manila, Gems Heart. The projects are initiated in identified communities in the capital, and our current scholarship program has been running since 2009.
Areas: Within Manila, AMV narrowed down the current targeted project area to Baseco, Port Area. The project area was chosen based on own field work and studies conducted by the Philippine government and independent institutions.
Key elements: Local ownership and involvement are two of the keys to project-success, and we focus greatly on these factors. The organization and projects follow a contribution policy, where beneficiaries have their own set of responsibilities in order to part-take in any project, as well as having a say through e.g. parent groups. This thus makes it more of a collaboration. We are primarily in-kind and service based, meaning most support is non-monetary.
Focus areas: One of our primary concerns is to contribute to enhanced self-confidence and capacity building among the beneficiaries, to ensure sustainability and avoid dependability. Our projects are built on the pillars of health, knowledge, livelihood and protection.
We believe that it only takes one voice to disrupt silence; only one person to end the cycle of poverty!
