Scholars’ Christmas Party
The spirit of Christmas was this year shared with our 7 scholars and their guests, siblings and parents.
In total 49 children, 5 adults, 4 volunteers and 2 clowns joined in on the celebration of the values of Christmas – of compassion and consideration for others. The event was not only fun filled and exciting for all participants, but it was the result of several weeks of planning. And the planners were no other than the scholars themselves.
Ahead of time the scholars were responsible for all the big and small details of the party. Together they decided on the menu for the party – ending up with the following menu:
- Fried Chicken
- Hotdog
- Pancit
- Spaghetti
- Rice
- Chocolate Cake
They were also in charge of making the decorations for the venue – including table tags for all their guests and also name tags for all participants. Furthermore, the scholars made chocolate lollipops for all the attending and ensured the well-being of their guests during the event. They had also decided in advance of the contents of the gift bags that were to be handed out, and the decision fell on 2 kg rice, 2 noodles, 1 blanket, 1 T-shirt and 1 caps. In addition AMV surprised the kids with a watch in each gift bag.
The event was filled with fun games and competitions – from the lace game (where the contestants needed to finish a long candy lace without using their hands) to the human tree (where the groups had to decorate an adult each like a Christmas tree) to clown show and performances.
In the end, the scholars were not just able to share a special moment with their friends and family members, but they got to participate in the entire planning process of the party to ensure that it would be as close to their dream celebration as possible. And the end result was truly a special Christmas gathering!
