School Supplies for Children at Learning Center in Baseco
On March 1 a team of 7 ladies headed out in a rented jeepney to a learning center in Baseco. Their intention was to hand out school bags with school supplies to more than 150 students in the impoverished Baseco area.
It was really what one could call a ‘girl power’ activity, as the team of seven consisted of the two AMV workers Charlotte Johansen and Heide Javier and five of the participants in our baking livelihood training. They were respectively Angela Mansuelto, Linda Damil, Lorna Ermina, Rochelle Medina, and Vanessa Carlos. All volunteers had their specific tasks during the giveaway – and the activity became quite memorable for all volunteers.
Two days ahead of the activity, the same ladies assisted in repackaging all the school supplies and preparing everything for the big day. In addition, scholar and baking participant Stephanie Tayo and baking participant Marilou Tayo joined in for the preparations.
The receiving students were between 4 and 6 years of age, and proudly became the new owners of their very own backpacks containing notebooks, pad papers, pencils, erasers, pens, pencil casings, pencil sharpeners, and crayons. In addition some of the students will be chosen as scholars when our second scholarship program starts in June.
