Summer Fun Educational Classes

Since mid-April A Million Voices has been providing motivational summer classes for ten bright children of the streets. The aim is to show them that learning can be fun and that staying in school is important.

Four days per week, from Tuesday till Friday, the children attend three hours of lectures in different topics. Every week is a new module, and they get to indulge in the exciting fields of the universe, animal kingdom, and the human body. In addition they also learn more about environment concerns, hygiene practices, and eating habits. Even though the age span of the children is from 8 till 14 years old, they all eagerly participate during class – and they particularly enjoy the focus we have on clip arts and hands-on activities. Every class includes not just fun facts, but also activity sheets and a chance to create everything from masks to clay figures.

In addition to the classes the children also receive Vitamin-C in order to strengthen their health, as well as a small snack. Once per month the children also get to go on an outing, and the picks till now have been the Manila City Zoo and ice skating at a local mall.

The intention is not to provide traditional class room education but to introduce to the children the fascinating world that is out there. We also aim at increasing their self-esteem as they get to master important subjects and create items using their very own imagination. As school approaches this June, they will all receive a scholarship and weekly homework assistance in order to continue the positive trend.
